How to Professionally Retouch a Portrait Photograph

In this video I show you how I professionally retouch a portrait photograph using Adobe’s Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. Starting from a raw image, I will show you my workflow, use of frequency separation and how I sharpen, as well as how I change my mind on some dodging and burning (I explain why I change my mind, too!).

As part of my workflow, I use a frequency separation action from the inimitable PiXimperfect on YouTube and strongly recommend you check out his videos for more on how FS works. If you like my work, please head on over to my contact page to get in touch!

Good retouching only works with a good image to begin with, of course. It’s much better to get things right in camera than it is to spend ages correcting bad lighting and awkward posing. Click here to read five tricks for perfect headshot posture so that you feel relaxed at your next photoshoot.
